Festive lights event shines spotlight on homelessness in Bury St Edmunds
The town’s annual festive lights event, organised by Our Bury St Edmunds Business Improvement District (BID), marked the start of the Christmas season on Thursday 20 November 2025, drawing crowds eager to see the town sparkle with seasonal decorations and enjoy festive activities.
Amid the excitement, Bury Drop In volunteers took centre stage, handing out over 400 mince pies and engaging with attendees about homelessness in the town. Visitors learned more about the charity’s vital services, including emergency provisions for people in crisis, and discovered ways they can support or get involved with Bury Drop In.
“We were thrilled to be part of such a joyful community event while raising awareness about homelessness,” said Ally Gill, Marketing and Communications Manager at Bury Drop In. “It’s a great opportunity to show the public how simple acts of kindness—like volunteering or donating—can make a real difference to people in need.”
The festive lights event continues to be a highlight of the town’s calendar, combining celebration with community awareness and support.
