Bury Drop In Celebrates Volunteers’ Week 2025
Bury Drop In will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across the UK in marking Volunteers’ Week 2025, taking place from 2 to 8 June. Now in its 41st year, the national campaign honours the remarkable contributions of volunteers who give their time, energy, and skills to support communities.
At Bury Drop In, volunteers are at the heart of the charity’s work supporting people facing homelessness in West Suffolk. This year, the charity will host a series of events to thank its dedicated team—including a special celebration in September to mark its 10th anniversary.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do,” said Sabine Dornbusch, General Manager at Bury Drop In. “Volunteers’ Week is a chance to say thank you—to recognise the kindness, resilience, and generosity that our community depends on. We are saying thank you for 4,992 hours volunteer hours, which relates to £60,952 giving in kind last year.”
Bury Drop In volunteers provide vital support in a wide variety of roles: from befriending guests to handing out emergency provisions including sleeping bags, tents and toiletries.
Drop in session and table 1 volunteer, Sue, said: “What I enjoy most about volunteering with Bury Drop In is helping people get back on track. It’s so easy for any of us to lose our way and end up with nothing.” Sue joined the charity in 2015, during its second session, and has been a committed volunteer ever since. As a befriender, she offers compassion and support – but her commitment goes far beyond that. Over the years, she has also taken on responsibilities in safeguarding and reception, demonstrating her unwavering support and versatility. Sue’s involvement is a testament to how one person’s dedication can make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of others.
We’re always looking for new volunteers to join our charity, connect with others, and develop new skills. A range of roles are available. To learn more about Bury Drop In and how you can get involved, visit our volunteers webpage.
