Bury Drop In has been named Best Community Group at the 2026 Bury Free Press Community Awards, recognising more than a decade of support for homeless and vulnerable people across Bury St Edmunds.

The charity received the award at a ceremony held at The Guildhall, where community groups, volunteers and local champions were celebrated for the difference they make across the town. The awards were organised in partnership with Bury St Edmunds Town Council.

Bury Drop In was recognised for its work supporting people facing homelessness. For more than 10 years, the charity has provided hot meals, toiletries, practical advice and companionship in a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment.

The charity’s success continued later in the evening when it was also named highly commended in the Fundraiser/Charity of the Year category.

The Bury Free Press Community Awards celebrate the people and organisations that go above and beyond to make their communities better places to live. This year’s ceremony highlighted the remarkable contribution made by volunteers, carers, fundraisers, community groups and local residents throughout the town.

Winning Best Community Group is a significant milestone for Bury Drop In as the charity continues its mission to provide practical support, compassion and hope to those experiencing homelessness and vulnerability in the local area.

The charity would like to thank everyone who has supported its work over the years, including volunteers, donors, community partners and local businesses.
